Frequently asked questions.

what should i look for in a therapist?

Finding a therapist that is right for you is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic process, which sometimes makes it feel the most daunting. Take a breath and think about the things that are important to you. Is it Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, or Religion? Do you want someone that incorporates humor but is able to see and understand the seriousness when it’s necessary? I feel it’s important to make sure you are finding someone with a therapeutic approach that fits with what you are needing. You get to decide what feels right for you but I would always encourage you to find someone that makes you feel as though you are doing therapy together, rather than doing therapy to you or for them.

You aren’t stuck with the first therapist that you try. Therapy is for you and if you aren’t feeling as though it’s a good fit, then it’s important for you to give yourself the opportunity to find someone who is. If that isn’t me, I will do my best to help guide you in the direction of another therapist.

do you provide consultation to see if we are good fit?

Since I believe in the importance of finding the right therapist for you, I provide a free 15 minute phone consultation to allow you to ask questions and get to know me better. This can be really helpful to see if we connect and to ensure that I am a good fit for what you are needing.

what should i expect from a therapy session?

Therapy with me will look different depending on what you are hoping for. I want to make sure that you are getting what you want and need out of therapy so the modalities that I use will vary. For the first few sessions you can expect to spend a lot of time getting to know each other. This will give you a better idea of my style of therapy and it will give me the opportunity to learn more about you and what your hope is for attending therapy. I want to work together to reach the goals that you determine are most important and will never push you to share or talk about things before you’re ready to do so. My goal is to help you identity patterns and instill curiosity into your life to help you navigate the barriers that make things hard for you.
